Dewsbury OAP’s home flood misery
Clive Gordon called a Kirklees Council emergency line after water from an upstairs flat began leaking into his mother’s home in the early hours of Saturday morning, leaving her bed sodden.
But he was told Betty Gordon would have to wait until Monday before Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing (KNH) staff could assess the situation – despite water leaking into every room of the flat in Gledhill Terrace.

“It was a big thing for her to leave the flat, but there was no way she could stay there.
“What if another elderly person who didn’t have anyone to help them was told to wait with no heating and no water?”
In a joint statement by KNH and the council, a spokesman said: “We are very sorry that a referral to the social care team wasn’t made at the time of the first call to the emergency repairs service.”
KNH staff have now found Mrs Gordon a suitable home.
