Open weekend to highlight centre
An open weekend designed to get people coming up with ideas for Howden Clough Community Centre will be held on Feburary 27-28.
Amid their budget proposals Kirklees Council, working with Locality, approached Batley Smile’s Mark Griffin to help with “community asset transfer” – after which volunteers might run the centre.

Hide AdHe has been working with Howden Clough Community Association Chairman John Logan. John Murgatroyd and Birstall’s councillors are among those involved.
Mark said: “This is a special thing for the community. We now need to think about how we keep things going for the future. We want it to continue but we have to come up with ideas as to how to fund it.”
The weekend includes a joint show by Songsational and Yorkshire Dialect Group on the Friday to kick-start interest. On the Saturday, open meetings about community asset transfer will be held at noon and 2pm, but the centre is open from 10am-4pm.
