Mather’s five-try haul seals Stags win

Mirfield fell behind to an early try as Marlins stand-off Gareth Fairound finished off a break down the right to give the home side a second-minute lead.

Hide AdMirfield replied as Jake Shaw and Conner Sockett linked to set up a Ross Hayden score.
Ben Mather crashed over after a Nathan Hadfield pass before Hayden crossed for his 20th try of the season after linking with Reece Spurr.
Mather powered over for his second try and extended the lead to 24-6 before Milford substitute Ryan Dindon went over to reduce the deficit to 12 points.
Another superb offload from Spurr set up Sockett to race over and give Mirfield a 30-12 half-time lead.

Hide AdMilford scored two early second half tries before Mather bagged three further tries to take his tally for the afternoon to five.
Captain Francis Maloney set up Shaw to score the final try but the day belonged to Mather.
n The Stags are staging a signing-on evening at Old Bank Working Men’s Club next Wednesday (August 12), from 7.30pm, as they venture into winter rugby, joining the Pennine League.
There will be a £2 sign-on fee for all players, who will also need to take two passport photos, as the club finalises its squad before being placed into a division later this month.

Hide AdTraining is already underway, taking place every Wednesday from 7pm at Castle Hall, Mirfield, and new players are welcome.
The club are also hoping to enter national and regional cups on the back of being included in the Pennine League structure, with their winter season due to begin sometime in September.
